Is my truck part of the 6.2L L87 recall?

How to tell if your 2021-2024 GM truck or SUV is covered by the L87 engine recall, and how to check your VIN in 60 seconds.

The short version

In 2025, GM recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8 over a manufacturing defect in the connecting-rod and crankshaft bearings that can cause the engine to seize without warning.

Affected vehicles (model years 2021-2024)

  • Chevrolet, Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Suburban
  • GMC, Sierra 1500, Yukon, Yukon XL
  • Cadillac, Escalade, Escalade ESV

Only vehicles built with the 6.2L L87 engine are included. The 5.3L and other engines are not part of this recall.

Check your VIN

  1. Find your 17-character VIN (lower windshield on the driver's side, or your registration).
  2. Use the VIN checker on our report page, we run it against the free NHTSA database.
  3. Or go directly to nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your VIN.

If your VIN comes back as included, your dealer is required to perform the remedy free of charge, even if your warranty has expired.
