Engine replaced under the recall, what to expect

Timelines, loaners, parts backlogs, and what a new long block means for your vehicle's value.

The remedy

For failed engines, the typical remedy is a new or remanufactured long block (or full engine) installed by a GM dealer at no cost under the recall.

Realistic timelines

Owners report a wide range, from a couple of weeks to two or more months, driven largely by parts availability. Ask your dealer for a written estimate and check on loaner eligibility.

Loaner / rental

Coverage varies. Push for a loaner; if denied, keep rental receipts in case reimbursement becomes available.

Resale value

A documented, manufacturer-installed engine under recall is generally viewed more favorably than an unknown failure history, but keep all paperwork to prove the work was done.

Still unhappy?

Repeated failures or very long out-of-service periods may still support a lemon-law claim even after a replacement. Run the checker.
