Why it matters
NHTSA opens and expands investigations based on the volume and pattern of owner complaints. Every complaint you file becomes part of the public record that regulators, journalists, and attorneys use to hold automakers accountable.
How to file
- Go to nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem.
- Choose Vehicle and enter your year, make, and model.
- Describe the failure factually: what happened, the mileage, whether you crashed or nearly did, and any injuries.
- Reference the engine: "6.2L L87 V8, connecting rod / crankshaft bearing failure."
- Submit and save your complaint number.
Tips
- Stick to facts and dates. Avoid speculation.
- Mention if the failure created a crash risk (e.g., loss of power in traffic), safety-of-life issues carry the most weight.
- File even if your vehicle was already repaired.
Then add the same details to your registry report so the community total reflects it.
